Senator Cecil Staton
Senate District 18
State Senator Cecil Staton, a Republican from Macon, was elected to
the Senate in 2004, and re-elected in 2006, to represent the 18th
Senatorial District which includes Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones and
Monroe counties.
He serves as chairman of the Science and Technology Committee, vice
chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, and secretary of
the Higher Education Committee. He also sits on the Appropriations and Transportation
committees.
A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Sen. Staton received his Bachelor of Arts degree
from Furman University in South Carolina and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in
England. He currently is a publisher and broadcaster in Macon and Warner Robins.
Sen. Staton and his wife Catherine have two sons, Trey and William. He is a member of
the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, and has served on the Board of Directors of the
(Macon) Museum of Arts and Sciences and the Macon Symphony Orchestra. He also is a
member of Highland Hills Baptist Church in Macon.
In 2000, he received the Richard Furman Award from Furman University.
