Senator Lee Hawkins
Senate District 49
Senator Lee Hawkins was elected to the Georgia State Senate from
the 49th District in 2006. Sen. Hawkins is a Republican,
representing the citizens of Hall and portions of Jackson County.
Sen. Hawkins is currently serving as vice chairman of the Senate
Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee and secretary of the
Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee. He also serves on
the Health and Human Services, Natural Resources and the
Environment and State and Local Governmental Operations Committees.
Sen. Hawkins received his dental training from the Emory University School of
Dentistry. Dr. Hawkins has operated a successful private practice of general dentistry in
Gainesville since 1978. He has served as section chairman of the Pierre Fauchard
Academy, editor of the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice, and President of the
Georgia Dental Association. He was recognized as an Honorable Fellow of the Georgia
Dental Association, and is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and the
American College of Dentists.
Sen. Hawkins has been an active community leader and volunteer. He has been a
member of the American Cancer Society of Hall County, Northeast Georgia Medical
Center, American Heart Association of Hall County, Chamber of Commerce and several
others.
Sen. Hawkins and his wife, Sharon, are the parents of seven children – Nora, Benjamin,
Ivory Michelle, Elizabeth, Meredith, Jim and Charlie. He and his family are members of
the St. Paul United Methodist Church of Gainesville.
