Senator Seth Harp
Senate District 29
State Senator Seth Harp represents Senate District 29, which includes parts of Muscogee
and Troup Counties and all of Meriwether and Harris Counties.
Sen. Harp is a Republican who serves as chairman of the Higher Education Committee
and vice chairman of the Judiciary Committee. He is also a member of the Government
Oversight, Special Judiciary, Joint Legislative Ethics and Appropriations Committees.
Sen. Harp served in Vietnam as an artillery officer in the United States Marine Corps. After completing
law school, he became an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate. Senator Harp is an attorney, and the owner of
Harp & Associates, P.C., a family law firm in Columbus. He has also chaired and held board positions
with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Better Business Bureau of West Georgia-East Alabama,
CONTACT and the Hospital Authority of Columbus. He served a term on the Muscogee County School
Board. He is also a member of the Kiwanis Club, NRA, Georgia Forestry Association, Forest Farmer’s
Association, Sierra Club, Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Harris County Chamber of
Commerce, LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce and the Prunifolia Society of the Ida Cason
Callaway Foundation.
Senator Harp’s additional involvement includes being an author and lecturer in taxation and family law.
He is listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Martindale-Hubbell’s Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers in
the areas of civil law and family law, and is treasurer of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of
Matrimonial Law. He has been an active supporter of the Republican Party on all levels. While a student
at Auburn, he worked on Sigma Chi Brother Barry Goldwater’s campaign. His service also includes
being a 1988 elector for President George H.W. Bush, 3rd District Chairman, and general counsel for the
Georgia GOP before he agreed to become a candidate in 2000.
